VISITORS – President Murray welcomed MNEA staff members (Sandy Smith, Laurie Bernskoetter, Alice Floros, and Scott Kiehl) to the meeting.
CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS
President Murray thanked Board members, local leaders, and staff for their work during the pandemic, summer, and back-to-school. The Board recognized the election of: Jason Steliga (chair, PSRS), Dennis Tabb (NEA Board at-large Director), Cicely Woodard (Springfield NEA, NEA Global Learning Fellow), and James Young (Ferguson-Florissant, 2022 MO Teacher of the Year). President Murray expressed his appreciation and gratitude for local leaders that are responding and advocating for MNEA members across the state.
REPORTS
President/VP Reports– President Murray and Vice President McIntosh shared their work during the spring and summer. President Murray reported to the Board that MNEA membership and data has never been more accurate and up-to-date. He highlighted the successes that several new leadership teams have achieved and reviewed the revision of MNEA governing documents. Vice President McIntosh reported on recent meetings of the State Board of Education, MACCE, budget development, and local bylaws. Fall RA planning is underway, and, at this time, the Representative Assembly will be held in-person with safety protocols implemented. Leadership is continuing to monitor the community health situation before a final decision is made.
NEA Director Report- Directors Paul Guess, Andy Slaughter, and Carmen Hill (NEA ESP at-large director) highlighted summer and fall NEA activities. The NEA Board will meet virtually in October for Congressional lobbying and Board business.
Executive Director Report– DeeAnn Aull shared information about the reopening of the MNEA offices for staff and membership enrollment and renewals. The online Join Now process has been very successful. Kyle Olmstead has joined the MNEA UniServ staff for Unit 13. She reviewed the launch of the new MNEA website and Rishanda Richardson, MNEA Electronic Communications & Research Coordinator, demonstrated the features of the new platform. Aull discussed the importance of upcoming school board elections and shared that opportunities will be coming to support local leaders with MNEA election assistance and trainings.
Field Reports– Patrick Layden and Chastity Young reported on membership activities around the state. Early enrollment and renewals are ongoing. The managers recognized multiple successful and creative back to school events.

The Board:
- Approved the 2021-22 MNEA Capital budget
- Approved the affiliation of the Lindbergh Association of Health Professionals
- Approved revisions to the MNEA PAC guidelines
- Discussed MNEA Committee meetings. In-person, all-committee meetings will not be held at Headquarters. Committees will self-schedule and time will be scheduled at RA’s for committees to meet.
- Discussed RA planning and logistics
